Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them. Balki is the founder of returnGuru, a company he started after winning Startup Weekend Portland in late 2011. Balki is an accidental entrepreneur who wasn't really planning to start his own venture. He was squarely focused on climbing the career ladder and so pursued an MBA program at the University of Washington in Seattle. However, he ended up building an internet startup instead.

ReturnGuru, winner of both the TiE Oregon PitchFest and the Portland Startup Weekend, is a remarkable app that lets iPhone, iPad or iPod touch users take a photo of their original receipt. ReturnGuru then processes the receipt’s data, applies the store’s return policy, and sends the users friendly, timely reminders to let them know that the exchange or return deadline is approaching. For online purchases, users simply forward their e-receipt to from their registered email address, and ReturnGuru takes care of the rest.

Diane is a Venture Partner with Voyager Capital heading up their Oregon-based initiatives. With over 30 years of technology company experience in leading marketing, strategy and business development, Diane works with startups in the enterprise software, Internet/mobile/social, and security software industries throughout the West Coast. Diane was previously Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Sanctum, a VC-backed startup providing Web application security software and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for the database company Informix Software (acquired by IBM), both based in Silicon Valley. Nitin Rai

Nitin Rai has over 25 years of experience in the high tech industry. He is currently President & CEO of First Insight Corporation, a Hillsboro, Oregon based software company which he founded in 1994. First Insight leads the eye-care industry in electronic medical records, practice management and e-commerce products for independent optometrists and ophthalmologists with its flagship product - Maximeyes.

Nitin has Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. Prior to founding First Insight, he worked as a Sr. Software Engineer at Mentor Graphics and two software startups in Silicon Valley and Seattle.

Nitin is a visionary and an entrepreneurial leader. His broad range of experience includes technology development, capital raising, sales, marketing, and finance and operations management. Nitin has raised over $20 million in both angel and venture investment for First Insight.

Nitin is incoming president of TIE Oregon, a not for profit entrepreneurship organization. He is a founding charter and board member of TIE Oregon since 2007 and has chaired its mentorship program since its inception. He has mentored entrepreneurs who have launched their companies, developed products and raised capital. He is very supportive of entrepreneurs and believes early mentoring is critical to their overall success in all stages of the development of their business. R Sivakumar is Managing Director at Intel Capital, responsible for investment strategy and coordination for the Intel Architecture products group and the Sales and Marketing group. Robin Jones

Robin Jones has broad experience in the mobile and semiconductor industries, including founding and serving as an executive at startups, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital investment, strategic planning and project management. She most recently was Chief Operating Officer of Geoloqi, which was acquired in September 2012 by Esri, and she has just been tapped to head a new business unit at the company focused on bringing the power of Esri's GIS tools to the application developer market. Previously, Robin ran the wireless streaming audio business for Avnera, a Beaverton-based venture-backed fabless semiconductor company. As co-founder and VP of Business Development at FonJax, she led all the company's financing and early sales and partnership activities, eventually selling the company to Keynote Systems and returning ~2.5X capital to its investors. Prior to her own startups, she directed business development for top companies such as Freescale Semiconductor’s Wireless and Mobile Systems Group and led Motorola Ventures out of Silicon Valley. Her first job out of school was with Motorola Lexicus Division, where she was project manager for several advanced wireless communications devices for international markets, including the first smartphone for Greater China. Gina Atwood

Gina Atwood is a business attorney with experience assisting clients to address their business and litigation needs. Currently, Gina works at Immix Law Group, a law firm that seeks to provide clients with holistic legal advice that properly addresses the business reality unique to each client. Previously, Gina practiced in the intellectual property and antitrust group of a large western law firm, where she served a diverse client base, from small local business entrepreneurs to large national and international commercial entities. Paola Moretto

Ernie Bootsma

Ernie Bootsma is an attorney, partner and member of the Management Committee at Ater Wynne LLP. He represents start-ups, emerging growth, and mature private and public companies. Jonathan Correa

I’m proud to be a Portland product. I started out my career in the Pacific Northwest representing my father, a well known metal sculptor, at the age of 18, shortly thereafter embarking on a career for myself in Visual Design. I eat sleep and breathe form and function and knew at a very young age that the movement of design itself is where my passion lies. I have a degree in Visual Communication and have worked in the field for over 13 years for various PDX companies such as Intel, Tripwire and Stumptown Game Design to name a few. I have worked in various mediums and platforms from animation to game design, from FX to advertising and every kind of motion in between. I have watched the art and design community in Portland grow and blossom to become self sufficient over the last few years and am proud to be a part of what Portland Startup is doing.

Dhananjay Keskar
