November’s #PDXSW isn’t just a local event, it’s part of Global Entrepreneur Week (GEW)! At #PDXSW you won’t just be a local participant — you’ll be part of a worldwide movement to improve people’s lives through the innovation and initiative of entrepreneurs!
Since launching in 2007, GEW has reached over 140 countries! Started by Carl Schramm, former CEO & President of the Kauffman Foundation, and Gordon Brown, former UK Prime Minister, GEW just keeps getting stronger!
Global Startup Battle is part of GEW! For this biggest-ever startup competition, #PDXSW teams join more than 1,200 Startup Weekend teams in 130+ cities — all frantically building companies from scratch in 54 hours. The winning team of #PDXSW and every other Startup Weekend event (being held Nov. 9-11 or Nov. 16-18) advances to the next level.
Next, each winning team has 24 hours to defend their startup with a 90-second pitch and 15-word description in an introductory video. The videos will be posted and online voting will decide 15 semi-finalists. Lastly, a jury of entrepreneurial professionals will deliberate to select one winning team! The Global Startup Battle champion will then be showered with awesome prizes, including a free VIP trip to Rio De Janiero for the next Global Entrepreneur Congress; a VIP trip to San Francisco to tour Googleplex; at least $15,000 in startup support services and $20,000 credit for Google App Engine sponsored by Google. Sweet, huh!
